The pentagram is also a figure or symbol formed by five signs or letters that supposedly would have magical powers.

Pentagram can still be, in geometry, the name given to a regular starry pentagon, where the symbol and the term already begin to assume a more mystical meaning because it is a talisman of the Pythagoreans, those who follow a series of doctrines and rules of life related to the mathematician Pythagoras. These doctrines are called Pythagoreanism and are organized in philosophical-religious communities, multiplied by Magna Graecia.

Among the meanings given to the pentagram, we have, mainly, that of its representation as a five-pointed star formed by a continuous and intertwined line that has always been recognized as a symbol of energy and power.

The first Christians saw the symbol of the five wounds of Christ in the pentagram, which is why the concept has such a negative connotation today, being a symbol that is linked to negative aspects and energies, feared by much of the Christian community and by societies whose Christianity is the dominant religion.

For esoteric, the pentagram also represents the five elements: earth, air, fire, water and spirit.

The pentagram is among the main and best known symbols of humanity, its meanings being changed in the course of the

History. The ancient Hebrews, for example, considered the Pentagram to be the Truth, in reference to the five books of the Pentateuch (the five books of the Old Testament attributed to Moses). The Greeks, on the other hand, marveled at the geometric perfection of the symbol and called it Pentalpha, composed of five “As”.

The Chinese use the pentagram as the philosophical basis of Chinese medicine to represent what they call the “cycle of destruction.”

Each end of the pentagram symbolizes one element specifically: Earth, Water, Fire, Wood and Metal. The idea is that each element can generate the next, thus creating a perfect cycle of creation – in addition, each element acts as an inhibitor of another element, to maintain balance.
